You are currently browsing the category archive for the ‘Jasmine’ category.

Jasmine, our beautiful little black chihuahua, keeper of the farm, chaser of cats, greeter of all who arrived to SkyRidge Farm, was taken from us unexpectedly after asking her daddy, Tim, to be let outside sometime around 3 am.

I will always remember Jasmine’s good taste in fashion: she often wore a pretty purple collar around her neck that accented her beautiful black hair.  She could be found sleeping amongst the blueberry bushes during the heat of the day, waking to eat some of the berries as they fell from the bushes while being picked.

Fetching sticks was a favorite game of Jasmine’s. Her uncle Hank often cuddled her in his arms. Daddy Tim offered counsel on the ways of the world. Her Auntie Beth always brought unexpected treats, kissin’ on her as much as possible, telling her she was the best dog in the world.

Jasmine’s enthusiasm for life made her difficult to photograph: she often appeared as a blur of colors in photos.  She loved doggy biscuits and dragging around her stuffed toy cobra or tiger, showing off for all who would watch, letting them know how well she defended the property from perceived threats.  It is perhaps this desire of hers to defend Skyridge Farm that brought her close to a predator: a match she could not win.

We will miss our sweet gal.

What’s up with Papa Hank? Well, on most days when the weather’s good, you’ll find him working somewhere out amongst the blueberries.  At this time of year, it’s easy to spot him between the leafless rows. If all else fails, you can search for that green hat he always wears, or you can give a shout out, or ask our mascot, Jasmine, to lead the way.

Today I found him pruning a few blueberry plants. We spoke about the goji berries and all the new blueberry plants he will be planting.  Soon, he’ll have the raspberry plants to sell.

Here are the prices and sizes for his organic plants:

$12.50 small blueberry plant, 2.8 gallon pot

$16.75 large blueberry plant 2.8 gallon pot

$6.50 golden raspberry plants, 2.8 gallon pot

Papa Hank also wants folks to know he will be selling vegetable plants from the farm.

CSA boxes will be available once again: $22/box. The box contains a variety of in-season produce. Hurry to sign up as inventory gets low.

Those coming out to the farm, Jasmine wants you to know she likes Milk Bone Dog Biscuits. I gave her several today. She either eats them on the spot, or runs away and hides them. Greeting visitors is the highlight of her day.

Our farm mascot is a little black chihuahua named Jasmine. She does not hunt gophers nor catch mice. She does fetch sticks and lots of attention.

Jasmine is known for racing around in circles and picking up small pine cones and stuffed animals. She is known for barking fearlessly at big dogs…when the big dogs are on the other side of a fence. She chases after the farm cats and occasional grasshoppers. She is camera-shy and shuns photographers. This photo of her required some gentle hand holding and coaxing.

We're located in Diamond Springs, near Placerville, at 4761 Sky Ridge Rd. Take Missouri Flat Rd to Pleasant Valley Rd. Turn left at the stop light. Turn right on Zandonella. Continue along Zandonella. Then take a right up Sky Ridge Rd. When the road is about to end, you'll see the farm on your left: look for a dirt driveway to the left of the house.
